Before I got into High School they tried to teach me how to manage my time so I could get everything done. There was talk of scheduling and prioritizing and making sure that assignments got done early. Unfortunately, school was so easy for me that I didn't need to bother. I had other, more pressing problems than homework, and I just banged that out, anyway.
Now, so many years later, I wish that I had listened better and given organizing myself some effort. I have so many things to do now that I literally don't have time: errands to run, things around the house, laundry, exercise - as well as the all-important task of watching tv late and then sleeping in. I don't have the executive function that I need to get everything done, things fall by the wayside, and I get dissatisfied.
Worse, it seems that my usual bad habit of getting distracted by a bright and shiny object that catches the light so nicely and wow, look at that rainbow. What did I come into this room for? Executive function, distracted, oh yeah. So it seems that I am getting distracted more easily now than ever before and it's harder to get my mind back on track. Lists and organization have become even more important and I'm paying the price for not investing in my own executive function.
